How CBD works in the body
It’s being called a “miracle plant” and showing up in more and more retailers across the country but is still at the center of controversy.
This week is all about answering your biggest questions about CBD. As an email subscriber, you’ll be getting our newest content on CBD all week long.
Today we’re answering the question, “What exactly is CBD?”
CBD stands for cannabidiol and is the second most abundant component of the Cannabis sativa plant species. Unlike THC, cannabidiol does NOT induce intoxicating effects. Instead, it has been discovered that CBD initiates multiple actions in the central nervous system and even has an influence on the effects of THC.
Does CBD Get You High?
Nope. The cannabis plant is made up of two main players: CBD and THC. CBD is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant, so what that means is you won't have any effects like euphoria.
Where does hemp come into all this?
The plant Cannabis sativa has two primary species, hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD, but there's a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has very low (less than 0.3%) levels of THC compared to marijuana.
